Story

The freedom chicken is handmade using recycled plastic bags and over-runs by talented young artisans in one of the many townships found in the outskirts of South African cities.

They are fairly traded by Tilner Art, who says:

"The story goes that around ten years ago a famous french designer went on holiday to Southern Africa and spotted these freedom chickens on the road side. Smitten by them, he ordered 1000 pieces to line the catwalk on one of his Parisian fashion shows. We are not sure if the chickens ever arrived in Paris but, nevertheless, we found the maker and have supported this talented group of township artisans for more than 6 years...."
